I got the idea years ago when I discovered Fanny Crosby (author of the children's hymn 'Give, Said the Little Stream') was blind and couldn't see the streams or flowers she wrote about.
What would she tell children about that hymn? I wondered. And did the other hymn writers have equally interesting stories? And could their experiences help me in my life?

Read the genre you are interested in writing for. Block out writing time and use a timer. Give yourself little rewards. Keep at it. Remember in a first draft you are exploring place and characters not writing the finished product.

The thing I love best is the insights I gain as I write. Characters and places emerge on that blank, white screen if I set there typing long enough. It is amazing!
