Bonnie MacBird Hello Allison, thank you for your question. Yes, it will be out in paperback this autumn. And you may be missing a book, as The Serpent Under was my sixth in the series. I hope you enjoy it!
Bonnie MacBird Thank you very much for your question, Panhasith. The Serpent Under was released Jan 2 of this year, 2025. I'm now working on book seven in the series.
Bonnie MacBird Although this is a question from long ago, I'll answer it now. I'm getting into poetry. Not my usual topic.
Bonnie MacBird Sorry Elizabeth, I didn't really find this question page until recently. Thank you for your kind words. I've been writing for a very long time, since I was a kid really. But my professional work began in Hollywood. I worked for four years as a story editor at Universal Studios then left to write screenplays. My first was bought and became the movie TRON. I wrote and sold other screenplays, then branched out into plays, then much later, books.
Bonnie MacBird Hello Sharon. Thank you for your question! Yes, I'm working on book seven now. I am so glad you are enjoying the books. Do you have a favourite?
Bonnie MacBird Yes, there will. Thank you for asking. A Serpent Under is in work now...
Bonnie MacBird Bringing along a small kit of modern pharmaceuticals, I'd journey to Victorian London and try to convince Sherlock Holmes to take me on as another "assistant".
Bonnie MacBird Hello Tracey. I'm sorry I did not see your question before this! I was looking in the wrong place...not very Sherockian of me, I admit. :)
Yes, the third novel THE DEVIL'S DUE is out in the UK now, and will be coming out in the US next week. And I've just been contracted for two more. I'm writing THE THREE LOCKS now. Your website is impressive, and I wish you the best on book two of your series. You have had an exciting career and I'm guessing that you bring your experience to bear in your writing. Thanks for asking about my series. Cheers, Bonnie
Bonnie MacBird Hello SH. Yes, THE THREE LOCKS is in work now. I have just been contracted for two more books by HarperCollins. Thank you for asking!
Bonnie MacBird It's almost the opposite for good health. Best advice is to show up, and to sit a lot. I mean spend a lot of time at your desk, on your computer (or at your notebook) writing. Butt on chair. Every day no matter what. Also learn how to push forward your story, how to research, and how to practice writing. Don't confuse one with the other. But write every day. Write what you love, because you can research what you don't know. And... get a good crit group of intelligent, supportive writers and meet regularly. Classes are good places to meet these potential group members.
Bonnie MacBird Sometimes the quest for the muse is far from amusing. One thing for sure, I don't wait for inspiration, I just show up at the desk, every morning, and do my word count. Sometimes I feel inspired, sometimes I feel I'm scratching around in the dark, but what my feelings are about the work is unimportant... I don't allow myself to judge. Just show up. Trust that the ideas will come. It is perfectly okay if sometimes they come more quickly and clearly and creatively than others. But showing up consistently and working through fear is the best path for inviting the muse.
Bonnie MacBird I'm currently working on the next book in my Holmes series for HarperCollins. It's called UNQUIET SPIRITS, and has to do with ghosts, whisky, and a secret in Holmes' past.
Bonnie MacBird Have loved Sherlock Holmes since age ten. Periodically since then I re engage, inspired by film and television. So crazy love for Sherlock Holmes started me off.. and the notion of the Janus faced gift of the artistic temperament, which undoubtedly Sherlock Holmes has...tickled my fancy. It's a subject dear to my heart, being an artist myself, and the daughter of an artist. Holmes' great grandmother was the sister of the artist Vernet. The time of my story, 1888 is one of my favorite periods in art history. An idea percolated from there...
