I binged on Mad Men with my wife. I wanted to write a broke down version of Donald Draper, someone sick and lonely, less likable. I wanted to reveal a character that hated himself so immensely that only an impossible love could keep him treading water. I wanted to write a story about being on the edge of existence, about being human and alone and how some of us can be when no one is looking. This novel tries to capture that.

Life. Stories other people tell me. I engage strangers at bars, or overhear them at school. Reading from the authors that inspire me helps. My readers and support on social media are an immense inspiration. When they enjoy a story, it inspires me to continue to deliver that excitement and enjoyment.

I'm working on my first full length novel which is untitled at the moment. I'm also preparing for a release of the second edition of my first book, Amid the Recesses: A Short Story Collection of Fear. Finally, I have to put the final touches on a Goosebumps-esque children's title. Between, I'm writing and publishing short literary fiction.

Write. Write in minutes between priorities. Write when you're alone or would rather do something else. Make it a habit to do it, even a little, each day. Read your ass off.

I can share a side of myself in writing I can't articulate with others. Writing teaches me about myself and about the world. It expands the world around us, shows us different perspective. As a writer, I'm free to be my worst and best.

I read. Reading loosens my mind. Ideas incited by a great metaphor or brilliant sentence can be the basis for an entire story. What you read should be substantial. If the block is especially bad, I read something I normally wouldn't.
