She's happy that she's finally together with Peter, but when he is posted to Faslane in Scotland, and is away at sea for months at a time, Kaisa becomes lonely and frustrated without a job, or a career of her own. All the other wives living in the same married quarters are either young mothers or pregnant... (hide spoiler)]

In order to become a good writer, I think you need to read a lot, write a lot, and live a little. I don't pretend to be a guru on the subject, so that's all I'll say.

I refer to Doris Lessing's quote about writing, 'I just have to...' I don't really have a choice, I just feel better when I write.

I think research is a good way around writer's block, but my problem is getting the time to write. On the odd occasion when I've sat there, in front of a blank screen, I tend to go to Google and look at pictures on the topic in general, or find out about what was happening in the world in the time I'm writing about. Mostly, though, I just force myself to write by telling myself that it doesn't matter if the words are rubbish, as long as I get going I can write a good chapter.
