How do you get inspired to write?

Eric Scott Johnston I tend to approach writing like a profession and I do it almost every day. I also read memoirs of writers I admire and their work.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Eric Scott Johnston I thought about how a child would go about recovering the remains of a parent who has been missing in action and has been forgotten by the government. What would that process be like?

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Eric Scott Johnston When that happens, I will write myself a letter from one of my characters. That act, seems to dissolve the barrier to creativity.
