Dave Gehrke Don't let your "real" life sidetrack you. Find the time to write something, anything, every day. A few sentences is better than nothing.

Writing is like a sharp knife, it requires constant honing.
Dave Gehrke I get to create the characters I like, determine the flow of the story and wrap up the ending the way I want the story to end. In short, I write the type of stories I enjoy reading; characters that drive the story, plots that twist and turn, realistic dialogue and endings that leave the reader thinking about the book for days after.
Dave Gehrke Since I work on more than one book at a time, when I hit writer's block with the one I'm working on, I "hop" to another. I find this change of pace stimulates my subconscious to find a way around the "block". If I try and stubbornly fight my way through a blockage, I usually wind up deleting all my "write-arounds". It's much more productive to just work on another novel until the ol' subconscious kicks in.
Dave Gehrke I work on several books at a time until one comes "alive" and insists I finish it. Right now I have eight or nine books in the hopper, all mysteries/thrillers except for one general fiction novel.
