Ian Acheson Thanks for the question, Ruth. Like many Christian authors Frank Peretti has had a big impact on me. His Darkness novels captivated me and opened my eyes to the world beyond what we can see. My Angelguard series reflects that thin veil between the natural and supernatural worlds.

There are plenty of other authors who provide inspiration: Ted Dekker, Jim Rubart, Jerry Jenkins, Tosca Lee, Erin Healy, Ronie Kendig ... and on.
Ian Acheson I'd go back to the time of Jesus. And follow Him around as much as I could and listen intently to what He said and watch how He lived.
Ian Acheson Once I finish my judging responsibilities during June I plan to catch up on some novels that have been bouncing up and down on my bookshelf to read, including, Tosca Lee's FirstBorn, Lisa Harris's Pursued and Jocelyn Green's The Mark of the King.
Ian Acheson Waiting for my publisher to respond to Wrestling with Shadows, the follow-up to Angelguard and working on a non-fiction project about male Christian role models.
Ian Acheson Turn up everyday even if it is to only do 100 words. Something magical happens when you start typing.

Read a lot, contribute to other writers whether it's by reviewing their books, sending emails of encouragement or whatever, and learn the craft. But don't get fixated on the craft, having great characters and an compelling story will always trump craft. Too many authors are too precious about perfecting the craft.
Ian Acheson I don't really believe in writer's block. I think it's more to do with either lacking story content or fear. If you have sufficient content the words will come if you sit at your computer and give yourself enough time.
Ian Acheson I think it would have to be Clive Cussler's Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino. I've read everyone of their stories and enjoy their courage, madcap antics and thrilling adventures.
