Dick Wybrow See the answer about inspiration.

But, honestly, I've a half-dozen books to my name and another 8-10 screenplays... only ONE story can I remember where the actual idea came from. And even then, it wasn't the inspiration I remember but where I was when I got the idea.

Yes, I was in the bathroom. Dunno. There's something really creative about the bathrooms. Maybe it's the quiet. Or the shiny porcelain.

Okay, there's some good advice. If you need inspiration, go to your bathroom and await further instructions.
Dick Wybrow I'll give you answer you probably haven't heard before. I have narcolepsy.

Let me stop you there, if you read that very quickly. That's not the buggering dead people thing. Just wanted to clear that up from the start.

Narcolepsy is a sleep-disorder. Or wake-disorder. I've heard it called both.

Basically, it means I'm tired all the time. Every minute of every hour. I suppose that sucks but what it does-- I've decided to embrace this-- is it helps me get into the dreamy state where you create.

You know that place, as you fall asleep, where your mind wanders and finds something really cool? That's where I am nearly all the time. Seriously.

So, I can't complain.

Well, I still complain. But maybe I shouldn't.
Dick Wybrow One of the ways to avoid writer's block, as I've said, is to have several different projects to sort of butterfly between.

Right now, I've been asked by readers to finish Book 4 and Book 5 of THE VAULT MATRIX. I'm doing that and apologize for not doing that earlier.

I'm also 75K words into a new novel tentatively called THE INBETWEEN.
Dick Wybrow Quit.

I have far too much competition already.
Dick Wybrow That changes daily.

However, one constant is that no matter what's going on in your day-to-day life, you've got a place to get away from the world. And, increasingly, if you keep at it the characters in your worlds will BEGIN TO TALK TO YOU.

It's one of the greatest things about being a writer. Or worst thing about being a schizophrenic, I suppose...
Dick Wybrow Doing something else creative helps, even if you're no damn good at it. Painting, drawing. Give a haiku a try. Or a dirty limerick. Maybe knit something.

Writer's block is often about pressure we're putting on ourselves, for a variety of reasons. Take a little break from yourself when you become a pain in the ass.
