David Tunno I'm now reading 1776 by David McCullough, but just finished Time to Hunt by Stephen Hunter.
David Tunno Be patient with the process of getting published. It is a lot more work than the actual writing and will likely take much more time as well. Unless you are just writing for fun, avoid self-publishing. If you have a good manuscript, it will find a home with a traditional publisher. Edit, edit and edit some more, using professional editors in that process, as well as your own work. It should be the costliest component of the entire process, but every round of editing will make your work better. Your manuscript, or book, is never as good as it COULD be.
David Tunno My B.A. degree is in drama and my M.A. is in Communications, with an emphasis in TV and film, so I've been attracted to storytelling in one form or another for quite some time. Writing a novel was a natural result of that, together with my desire to create something that outlives me.
David Tunno I was always of fan of the tall ship era and particularly of the historic ship USS Constitution, "Old Ironsides." That goes back to my youth. Following the attack on 9/11, and knowing the ship was built specifically to battle the Islamic terrorists of their day, the Barbary Coast pirates, it occurred to me to combine that history with the geopolitical events of today, as though implying that old war never really ended. Intrepid Spirit is the novelization of a screenplay I wrote many years ago, but not too long after the 9/11 attack.
