No matter what, write the story you want to tell. Take that constructive criticism and make your story the absolute best that you can, but never sacrifice creativity, originality, character, or plot for the sake that maybe not everyone will like it. You can't rely on what everyone else is going to think. That rationale will hinder your genuine self. We have to accept the fact that not everything we write will be liked by everyone, but there will always be those few (or many) that appreciate a no-holds-barred, unapologetic, risk-taking author. Your authenticity will be the back-bone that shapes you and your readers. See, I didn't do that the first time around, and it killed me just a little bit knowing that the real story could be out there and whatever other people were reading was a pale imitation--a false clone of the pure work still lingering inside me.

To me, the best thing about being a writer is also the worst thing. I think I can speak for most writers when we talk about the sheer maddening aspect of having so much in your head--SO much to tell and finding the utmost difficulty flushing it out in the way that we can consider as close to perfection as possible. I love that I am compelled to write and explore the stories hidden in my head, but will they be well-received? You just never know, but you take the risk. You bite the bullet, flood it into overdrive and fly like a bat out of hell. The best thing about writing is knowing that you are molding and piecing a story together and the connection you make with your reader, especially when they are thoroughly enjoying themselves reading your work.

I'm currently working through the first draft of the second book in The Hellearth Saga, but at the same time I can only write so much fantasy-based literature, so I'm tossing around a few other projects as well. Most of my other stories are centered around Contemporary/Transgressive fiction, so we shall see what I conjure up next--spread my creative wings and tap into a new reading demographic.
