Judy Goodwin Please, please learn your craft. Writing is probably the only profession where people think you can just pick up a pen and start writing a masterpiece. I've heard it takes 10,000 hours to master a skill, and writing fiction is no different. Learn your spelling and grammar--even if you use an editor (and you should), you'll at least know what proper English should look like, so you'll know if you're being scammed. Join a writers critique group. Be prepared to grow a thick skin. Writing is hard work. Have the pride to make it professional.
Judy Goodwin I'm currently working on Book 2 of the Spirit Mage Saga, entitled "Fall of the Guardians." Aidah and Tavish may be in Landaran, but their troubles are only beginning. Also look for another Cathy Pembroke tale to come out early next year, "Ogres on Alcatraz Isle." How do you get rid of a bunch of ogres who decide to take over a popular tourist site?
Judy Goodwin I usually have more than one project going on at once--a novel, a short story, etc. If I have trouble with one, I can work more on another until I've had a chance to figure out what happens next in the story. I also like to get inside my character's heads and ask them what they'd do next. This includes villains. They often come up with some challenging obstacles!
