I just ordered the 3rd book and can't wait to read. What you touched on in creating a empire context for Ambrosius incites a great historical framework. Isn't Ambrosius the real King Arthur? Gildas mentioned a person 90 years after your time context. And your context of 454 makes a lot of sense. Ambrosius is Nennius' Arthur.

Hey just finished book 1 and it was perfect book and all the critic about the lack of character development was not true. Perfect development of him and the slave girl. And it was first book we always learn more about comrades during the whole series. But I must say almost all of your readers are coming to read about Roman empire and the fact we are going to Britain just like his soldiers we miss the Roman empire?
Derek Birks Thanks, Kenny. From book 2 on we do leave the empire but Ambrosius' story is very much about Britain amid the ruins of the empire. It's a shadowy period and Ambrosius is one of the few actual historical figures we know of. I hope readers will want to follow his story.

hey man. Such a cool storyline havent even read the book and i am already obsessed with time period in plot. Any more books after book 3 you should make this a whole 10 + book series? Very few good series set in this time and it really is the best roman time period besides the 200-300 and 0-70 Ad. You a goat thanks for writing these books man.
Derek Birks Cheers, Kenny. Book 3 will be out in the next month or so. I'm considering continuing the series beyond that as Ambrosius has a long story!

Hi Derek, Just finished the second book on Ambrosius and it was like the first novel a rip roaring adventure yarn a little like the old Dan Dare and Boys Own adventures... at least spiritually. Two days was all it took and now I am afraid how long it is going to be before we can see if Ambrosius can become King or at least ruler of Britannia in preparation for Arturus? Would it be presumptive to ask... when?

Thanks for getting in touch. I'm very glad you enjoyed book 2. I am contracted to write Book 3 and it is under way, but it is unlikely to be out until maybe the end of the year. The story of Ambrosius and Arturus will certainly move forward in the next book...

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?
Derek Birks I'm tempted to say Middle Earth to see Frodo, Gandalf and Aragorn, etc. but as to what I'd do there? Perhaps nip up to Mount Doom and grab the ring before Frodo and Gollum manage to make a mess of the whole thing.

Derek Birks After I've read Matt Harffy's The Cross and the Curse, there's Under the Approaching Dark, by Anna Belfrage, Clash of Empires by Paul Bennett, several by David Gilman and Matt Harffy and loads of SJA Turney's!
