Ask the Author: Taylin Clavelli

Taylin Clavelli Not so many mysteries in my personal life, but I work at a hotel, whose grounds and chapel date back to the eleventh century. I'm sure a story could be wheedled out of that setting.
Taylin Clavelli I have a short story coming out in the Wayward Ink Anthology - A Likely Story on the 19th December. In it my story Chimera Air was inspired when I took a trip to Canada and Texas. I had 5 flights in the space of 3 weeks and noticed a number of things which got my mind working.
Chimera Air is an airline completely staffed by gay people - and the customer isn't always right.
Taylin Clavelli To be honest anything can inspire me to write. A song. An event I have strong feelings about. Once I saw an act on TV at Christmas and that inspired a story. There's a Wednesday Briefs free fiction thing I do. Each week authors are sent pictures and one liners and if we are inspired by what we see, we have to write a little 500 word + story around it.
Sometimes those little pieces of inspiration can lead to a much bigger story.
Taylin Clavelli The same advice that was given to me with a couple of additions.

Draw a picture with your words. It's not enough to say - he had a coffee. Need to create the atmosphere. E.g - he took a large gulp from his rich roast Columbian coffee and closed his eyes as the comforting liquid slid down his throat.

Always do your research well. Despite writing fiction, one can't always pluck an subject matter out of the sky and write about it. Know the topic you are writing about as erroneous facts spoil a story.

Invest in a grammar checker. Although most are set up for office documents, instead of creative writing, they will pick up on silly spelling and other mistakes which make a difference to your submission.
Taylin Clavelli The best thing about being a writer is being able to write about subjects I love and being able to give my characters situations and endings I am satisfied with. Sometimes I'll watch a movie, TV show or read a book where I would do something different with the characters. By writing my own stories I can give them the endings I want.
Taylin Clavelli With music and movies. Rather than continue writing and delete the work later, I take a total break. Often I find that by occupying myself with other things, an idea will suddenly appear.
