Emily Raboteau My next novel is about a gentrifying apartment building in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, where I live. The hero is its superintendent. It's called "Endurance."
Emily Raboteau My idea for "Searching for Zion" really began when my best friend Tamar, whom I was visiting in Israel, mentioned that there were Black Jews from Detroit living in the Negev Desert. That surprised and interested me enough to return, years later, to investigate this community of African Hebrew Israelites. Emily Raboteau Read as a writer, trying to identify from the perspective of craft how and why the prose is acting on you emotionally.
