S.M. McEachern I'm setting up a Bigfoot hunt, so maybe that? Oh wait - that's the plot of my book creating the mystery in my own life.

What was the question?
S.M. McEachern Hi Christy - thanks so much for getting in touch! I wish I had a set date I could give you, but I'm currently finishing a sci-fi romance to get it off to an editor (it's hilarious! I'm in love with Geri and Sean).

That said, I'm about 20,000 words in on the first book of the P.I.T Series. I can tell you that it's tentatively titled "Blood Ties" and features the usual cast of characters, with Ted Kenner and Willow playing a starring role this time. Unfortunately the betrothed couple really don't like each other, which makes for some very awkward, if not comical, encounters. And of course Sunny and Jack are in the story because Ted's about to become an uncle :)

For updates on when I complete my current works-in-project, you can check back here, or my website at smmceachern.com or sign up for my newsletter.

Great hearing from you, Christy!

Cheers - Susan
S.M. McEachern Hi Wendy,

Your question is really timely because I've had a lot of emails about where the series is going. Something that has touched me is how many readers are dubbing the rest of the series P.I.T. As a tribute to everyone who has supported me, PIT is now the name of the spin-off series of Sunset Rising. I plan to write novellas that resemble episodes, focusing on the same characters in the post apocalyptic world I've created.

Admittedly, I've taken some time off writing due to life's challenges. But I'm back into it and hope to have something new out soon! Thanks so much for getting in touch. It's support like yours that encourage me to keep on writing :) xo
S.M. McEachern Hi Claudia!

This is a great question! And it's currently the most popular question I'm being emailed with. The answer is, yes, they will be in print. I've been working on it and hope to have them available by the summer.

If you, or anyone reading this, would like to be kept up-to-date on when the paperbacks are available, you can follow me on my website: http://smmceachern.com or connect with me on Twitter and/or Facebook. I currently do not run a newsletter, but I've been told I need to start one :-/

Thanks for asking, Claudia! Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have more questions.
S.M. McEachern Hi Joseph - Great question! People have mentioned the titled before, but this is the first time someone's asked me about it :)

In addition to being what I hope is a quirky, catchy title, "Sunset Rising" is a metaphor used to describe Sunset O'Donnell's rise from the bonds of oppression to the eventual outcome in the last book of the trilogy, "New World Order" (which was JUST released today, so I won't give any spoilers!). It's both the title of the first book and the series as a whole... because now that the initial trilogy is complete, I do intend to write more novels on the world I've built and the various characters I've developed. I'll continue to call it the Sunset Rising series for identifying purposes (and who knows - maybe Sunny hasn't finished her climb!).

Thanks for getting in touch, Joseph! Hopefully that answers your question. Don't hesitate to ask if you have more!

Cheers - Susan
S.M. McEachern Hi Pam - Yes I do have a release date for New World Order: January 15, 2015. It's being digitally formatted by Vook right now :) I'm really excited to finally share it with everyone!

Thanks for getting in touch, Pam!
S.M. McEachern Hi Natalie,

Thanks for your question! Currently, only the first book of the trilogy, Sunset Rising, is available in paperback from Amazon. However, now that all three books are written I have more time to devote to getting them into paperback and audio. In case you're interested, from now until December 31, 2014, I'm hosting a Goodreads Giveaway of two Sunset Rising paperbacks :)

Let me know if this answers your question or if there's anything else you'd like to ask me. Thanks, Natalie!
S.M. McEachern Hi Jenna! (and sorry for my late response!)

Both Jack and Sunny have a bit of me in them (and I think you meant Sunny? Summer was more of a minor character, although she plays a bigger role in book 3, New World Order, due out in January!).

Sunny is the determined, jaded teenager who's mad at the world (as she should be!), but learns that when she lets go of her anger, puts her energies into setting goals and begins to work with the people who can help her achieve those goals, that she can accomplish a lot. How does this relate to me? I was mad at the world once too, but when I finally stopped blaming everyone for my poverty, started setting goals and working toward them, I put myself through university.

Jack is the well-meaning, good hearted, ivory towerist who has his eyes opened. When he's the heir, living in the Dome, he thinks he knows it all and can be the saviour of the Dome. But then goes down into the Pit with Sunny and has his eyes opened. How does this relate to me? I had my eyes opened when I finished my degree in International Development, left my ivory tower, and then actually started working with "less developed" countries.

Hopefully that answers your question, but if it doesn't let me know. I'd be happy to give more details. And please feel free to get in touch any time. I'll be more diligent about checking "Ask the Author"! Thanks, Jenna.

S.M. McEachern Read. Write a lot of nonsense. Go for a run. Listen to music. And if all else fails, have a glass of a nice vintage red.
S.M. McEachern That's actually a complicated question because different things inspire me for different reasons. Like, if I'm having trouble developing a character's personality, I'll turn to music for inspiration. Here's a spoiler alert: one of the songs that inspired the character of Reyes Crowe in "New World Order" was "Bad Dream" by Keane.

I don't normally go looking for inspiration, it usually just blindsides me. Hearing a new song, watching a movie, reading a great book can all have the effect of sending me on a creative binge.
S.M. McEachern "Sunset Rising" was the culmination of academic research, my love of YA literature, and my lifelong dream to become a writer. The idea of the story first came to me back in my university days when I read a paper on the biodome experiment in Arizona as part of my research on ocean-atmospheric interaction. But since I was pretty sure that on its own would make for a spectacularly dry YA story, I added a nuclear war, some people, a defunct government and a group of underdogs. Voila.
S.M. McEachern Drumroll please... I JUST finished writing the manuscript for the third book of the Sunset Rising series, titled "New World Order." It's currently with the editor and I have an expected release date of January 2015.

I have a lot of ideas for my next project that range from a simple, old fashioned YA love story, to a more action-packed science fiction romance story. Any suggestions? Oh, and I also intend to write some novella off-shoots of the Sunset Rising series. Love to get your feedback on all of that!
