The hook for any novel just sort of hits an author all of a sudden. I loved Gone Girl, Girl on the Train...these are the type of relationship thrillers which I aspire to. I'm interested in obsessive relationships and the secret in the commercial world of novels these days, is to find a unique hook.

Having coached hundreds of ladies over the years on the tennis court, I found most of the inspiration for my work from their stories and confidences shared over coffees. Mums the word!
Also, having retired from the tennis court, I am inspired to succeed. Part of the personality.....to improve and to prove.

I am currently working on the fourth novel in my psychological relationship thriller series. To date these have all been set in North London.
4 Riverside Close is book number one. You Are Mine is number two. The third book is finished but not sure what to title it....watch this space.
My fourth thriller is again set in North London but moving backwards and forwards between an old home setting in Northern Ireland called Ballyholme, County Down. I'm about 20,000 words in. Slow and steady!

I'm a huge tennis fan and have been a coach to many talented young players over the years. I give the same advice to aspiring writers that I gave to so many tennis players.
Talent alone is not enough. Dedication, hard work and plenty of practice is essential to reach the top. Watching other players, like reading top author's works, forms part of this journey.
Roger Federer still needs a tennis coach by his side and he is truly the best tennis player we'll ever see (my hero!)...he knows that he can still get better. So too for aspiring writers. Every knock back, bad review should be an incentive to do better. Never say die and always aim to improve.
This is my goal as I carry on working.

I love working from home! Also, it feels good to put down on paper, ideas and themes which you wouldn't dare voice in real life. When people ask if I'm ever a character in any of my books, I say 'of course not. It's purely fiction.' Of course this is stretching the truth!!!

I don't worry about writer's block. It is important to set a regular target of so many words. Bad words can be edited. An empty page can't. Every word written is a step forward, no matter how slow and faltering.
