I read an Agatha Christie novel called Mrs. McGinty's Dead - and I had the idea to write a character who really, really loves Agatha Christie! A lot of the inspiration from HORRID came from that particular novel, too :)

I've battled with depression and generalized anxiety disorder since I was a young teen, and I knew I wanted my first book to address mental illness as well as the hugely positive impact that therapy has had in my life (and can have in basically everyone's life, mental illness or not). I've read quite a few books on depression, however, so I was interested in exploring a mental illness that isn't given as much "attention" - aside from a certain sensationalized autobiography that ended up probably being almost entirely made up for the sake of entertainment. That is how I arrived at a character with DID (although Molly ALSO suffers from depression and anxiety and each of these are equally important to her character). Thank you for asking!
