Joshua Converse The crib was empty. The curtains flapped beside the open window...
Joshua Converse My wife and I were at Point Lobos, which was the inspiration for the island in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, and I thought it was a great place for werewolves...
Joshua Converse Books and bookstores tend to inspire me, but so does travel, or music. Sometimes it's just overheard conversation or an image. Really, if you look around, there's material everywhere.
Joshua Converse I am editing my first novel, The Diana Strain. It's about werewolves in Big Sur. I also have two other novels in some stage of being written, and two short stories in the works.
Joshua Converse Read everything. Read great books, especially, to learn from the masters, but also read stuff that isn't great, or even stuff that's bad because every book has a lesson to teach you about what to do and what not to do. The other part is to make a habit of writing as much as possible. Just build in a time and work, even if it's not great--Galway Kinnel said "You can't edit nothing."
Joshua Converse Write into it-- it doesn't have to be good or even particularly coherent, but if you build the habit of writing, you can find the good stuff among the junk.
