Viral Dawn simmered in my brain for years before I wrote it. My inspiration was Night of the Living Dead, which was my first zombie film. I had the privilege of seeing it as a kid in a world without cell phones, PCs or the Internet, and that, my friends, was a treat. It made horror films much more plausible watching it from that perspective in that time.

The second book in the Viral series. I just released a revision of Viral Dawn that took the book from being a novella to a full-length novel.

Just do it. No matter where you are or what training or resources you have or don't have, just use what you have and begin. Understand that you'll have tremendous failures, but there will also be great successes. You're blessed to live in a time where you have greater access to free training resources online and can publish from your home in your recliner. It also helps, if you want to sell books, to find critical friends who can help you along the way. Park your ego at the door because you need to listen to others' feedback on your work. Sometimes the feedback won't be helpful, but you will always have something new to learn. If you think you're above learning or polishing your craft, you probably won't get far.

Creating stories. Hands down. When I'm writing something that's really good, I can feel it deep down, and it's a real rush.

In my own experience, writer's block has been more a matter of training my brain to stay on task as opposed to an absence of ideas. Doing the obvious things like taking care of any pressing matters before writing can help. I make myself start writing and try not to focus on creating that perfect first sentence. I give myself permission to write badly...even horribly at first while understanding I will come back to it later and fix it. Getting the bones of the story down first is what counts.

I have an over-active imagination, and my daily interactions with others, as well as experiences, trigger ideas in my mind.
