Some good ones are coming out. I love Bill Pronzini's Nameless Detective series, so Endgame is on my list. Also, Anthony Horowitz, and he has Magpie Murders coming in June. UNSUB by Meg Gardner looks intriguing, as does Miles Off Course by Sulari Gentill, an author new to me. And who can resist a mystery set in Paris? Cara Black's Murder in Saint-Germain. And I'd like to have time for A Dark So Deadly by Stuart McBride.

One day, while visiting friends in a remote Alaskan town, I joined two friends for a little romp in the woods. We came upon a dilapidated house with boarded-up windows but a locked door. Some of the siding pulled away enough to look inside. When we did, we could see what we were sure was a pile of gold bars. Now what would they be doing out there, all shiny and hidden? Of course, we were eight, nine, and twelve, so our imaginations went wild. Wild enough that we skedaddled, sure whoever owned (or stole) that gold was watching and ready to take chase. Still, have wondered all these years what I really saw....

Nelson DeMille's John Corey and Kate Mayfield. Why? It's all about their senses of humor. Corey is irreverent, a real smart mouth, and Kate calls him on it. She's equal to his caustic wit. I love his devil-may-care attitude because he does things his way and gets it done. Kate keeps him somewhat centered without being controlling.

Mysteries have always been in my blood, but the Eyes & Ears concept was sparked by a lovely couple who owned a B&B in Ashland, Oregon. She is deaf and he is blind, the opposite of my detectives. They complemented each other so beautifully that I hoped to write stories depicting how well a team can work with each individual using his/her special strength.

I am nearly done, as in this week, with the first of a new series which will feature a blind detective pairing up with a deaf one. They have formed an agency called Eyes & Ears, and will be working cold cases for Portland Police Bureau.

Since I write murder mysteries, I absolutely love being able to put together a totally despicable character -- one designed around a person I might be having issues with in life -- and then killing him/her in ways that tend to show poetic justice.

It's tough but what works best for me is to take a walk. I suppose the length depends on how solid the block is! And I always need my dog to accompany me. That way, I have someone to bounce ideas off of if they occur to me. I mean...WHEN they occur to me.
