Tom Pitts Christ, how did I miss this?
No, the suburban horror novel I wrote is called Coldwater. It's about a couple in Sacramento that live on a quiet street. Quiet until some squatters move into an empty house across the street. No monsters, no ghosts, but the results are still quite frightening.
Tom Pitts Wow. Managed to miss this question--even while a year stomped by.
As for Donny, I think we're going to leave him where he's at. My new novel, American Static will be out in June '17. It's a whole new cast. And a even better book, if I don't say so myself.
On the bright side for Donny, I recently finished the script--so maybe he'll still see a new life up on the screen.
Tom Pitts My books are usually taken from circumstance. In other words, you have a couple of characters, you stick 'em in a situation, and let the story unravel in front of you. I know, sounds easier than it is, but essentially, that's how it works. The idea for HUSTLE came to me when I wondered about how prostitutes blackmail folks in the digital age. They've been stealing from johns for centuries, but the possibilities of the internet gave it a new spin. Of course, it ended up being gay hustlers, and the vehicle they tried to use for the extortion fails and pulls them into a whole other web of trouble, but that's the trick. Let that first idea only be a seed, then watch it grow.
Tom Pitts It's been said by someone wiser than I that you can't wait for inspiration. You have to sit down and write. The muse will show up when the muse likes. What the muse really wants is for you to begin without her.
Tom Pitts Currently I'm working on, what I call, a suburban thriller. A plausible horror story for anyone who has lived in the burbs. I'm about halfway through the first draft.
I've also got a novella called Knuckleball coming out on One Eye Press, March 2015, and we're wrapping up the cover and edits on that. In other news, I have my agent hard at work shopping my latest novel, California Libertine.
Tom Pitts Write. That's the deal. I mean, it usually boils down to discipline. Being able to sit behind the keyboard and push forward. The other stuff will come into play eventually, but you have to do the heavy lifting and make sure you have something to offer the world.
