Edward Mullen The idea for Prodigy came from getting my first iPhone. I was blown away with the book store app where I could search and download pretty much any book ever. I thought to myself, what would be better than this? Like, in 100 years, what would this app be like. The answer was - people would just be able to download the book right into their head. I followed that thought through to its conclusion and figured, a society such as this where everyone is ridiculously smart would be radically different. I explored what that world would look like. What would the education system be like, what would government and laws be like, what would the economy be like, what would technology be like... and so on. I started plotting it out. The idea for Alex came from a YouTube clip I saw where this guy was on David Letterman. He had synethesia and he was a super genius. I thought, what would someone like that be like in a society where people download information right into their heads? I didn't plot out Prodigy, I had some ideas and just began writing and whatever came out, came out. Book 2 and book 3 were not at all planned at the time of writing book 1. Many years later, I wrote ZERO, which is a prequel to Prodigy.
