I've been getting your emails. Is that one not working?
Brandon Berntson Dude, you're going to make me start crying...
Brandon Berntson I am currently working on something I'm not sure I'll ever finish. It's a biblical, literary, horror fantasy. Lots of characters. I am trying to incorporate Native American myths and traditions with Eastern Religion, along with variations of the Bible and the New Testament. It is epic, to say the least, but I think it could be something very very special.
Brandon Berntson Read everything, all genres, styles, classics, everything. Reading will make you a better writer. It will teach you what to do, what not to do, what's been done, and what hasn't.
Brandon Berntson Probably just working for a living while trying to write. I think every writer wishes they could support themselves. I believe in my stories and always have. I've worked on them for years. I dream of the day one of them would just get some traction and take off. I wish I could just focus on stories and cultivate my imagination without having to worry about the financial aspect. Every writer wishes that, though. I'm not a cookie-cutter writer. I believe in moving and making the reader for emotion. I want you to be moved. I think those tales have a lasting impression and mean the most. People say you either have to write to market and make money, or write what you love and struggle. I don't see why you can't do both. I don't think it's one or the other.
Brandon Berntson Hearing from others. Knowing your work, no matter how light or dark, is making people think, feel, laugh, cry, and enriching their lives. That's priceless. When they take the time to tell you that. And getting to the end of something you have really labored over. That feeling can't be matched.
Brandon Berntson I just keep writing. I find the act of actually sitting down with paper and a pen to be the only thing you have to do. The act of writing itself usually generates ideas and keeps you going. At least it does for me.
