Nel Ashley I have two works in progress at the moment, one is inspired by my favourite musical the Phantom of the Opera and the other is going to be a vampire paranormal romance entitled Persephone Reborn. The idea for this one came to me whilst I was working on a survey of St James Garden cemetery in Liverpool for my archaeology degree. Cora, an archaeology student, meets Nathan in the cemetery one evening and soon discovers he's not what he appears to be, but their blossoming romance is blighted by a number of vampire style murders and when Cora is kidnapped by a rival vampire clan Nathan must rescue her before they turn her and unwittingly release an ancient and powerful vampire goddess.
Nel Ashley Inspiration comes from the most unlikely of places. Ideas tend to just pop into my head, some are worth following up others don't always result in a viable idea for a novel. Once an idea presents itself it is very difficult to shake off and I find myself compelled to write it down. As the idea rolls around my head scenes and conversations appear which all get put into a notebook and written up later.
Nel Ashley Immortal was the sequel to my debut novel, Blackfeather. I hadn't planned to write a series, the idea for Immortal developed as I was writing Blackfeather and instead of making it a happy ending in which Ash could stay with Kate I decided it would be more fun to torture them a little longer and send him to Hell, turn him from an angel into a demon and let chaos ensue. Malachi, the immortal of the title, is the person Lucifer sends out into the world to cause disasters and mayhem. The book deals with the philosophical idea of freewill versus determinism.
