Urban fantasy (my preferred genre) is all about imagining the current world slightly different. With all of the chaos going on, it's not hard to imagine some crazy spin to put on what's going on. For me it was coming up with a malevolent force (i.e., the Four Horsemen) alive and well in today's world, pulling the strings.

When it hits (and it does) I don't force myself to write. Instead, I fill my days with other distractions - workouts, kids, the "day job", etc. Add to that, some good night sleep and some fun, and I usually get past the block.
