P.T. Mayes This summer I'm going to embark on a "great project", something I have been meaning to do in years -- read all of Ian Fleming's James Bond books in sequence. I'll probably break up this task by reading several other books in-between, but it's going to be a Bond Summer for me.
P.T. Mayes I have already used a mystery in my life as part of the plot of one of my books. I suffered from sleep paralysis for several years and used this (rather nasty) experience to kick the story off. Sadly this book has never been published and as far as I can see right now, won't be. It would need quite a lot of revision.
P.T. Mayes It's a spin on another book I was trying to write, but just couldn't get it to work. I began looking at the story from a different angle and it just happened. I can't remember where the idea for the original book came from.
P.T. Mayes Once you've finished the first draft give it a few months to cool off and write something else. When you come back to it you'll find it easier to spot errors, typos, etc.
P.T. Mayes If I have writers block that usually means I'm stuck on some aspect of the story. I go off and do something else and after a few sleeps my subconscious has, more often than not, worked out the problem.
P.T. Mayes A short thriller novel.
P.T. Mayes Generally it just happens. However sometimes reading a really good book can give me a boost.
P.T. Mayes Making stuff up. I love creating worlds and characters and... everything!
