As an attorney, it's doubtful I could do anything in only two sentences.

Although one of my undergraduate degrees was in History, all my books
are based in the here and now, as are the books I read. I'm not a fan
of science fiction or fantasy, although I dig GOT on HBO. So, the
answer to the question is: the current, modern world. What would I do?
My other undergrad degree is in Political Science, so I continue to
study current global affairs and try to glean the direction events
will take. I build my stories around the actions I think my
protagonists should take to stop the bad actors from succeeding.

Great question! My summer reading list includes: Daniel Silva's House of Spies; Ben Coes' Trap The Devil; Brad Thor's Use of Force; and somewhere in there, because I'm about to begin writing the next book in my own Sleeping Dogs series, I want to read the whole series from Sleeping Dogs: The Awakening all the way through this summer's new release, The Dogs of War. I want to make sure the continuity is there when I start the new book.

If we were living in more primitive times, I would be my tribe's story teller. I've always felt a compulsion to write—fiction and nonfiction.

I believe it was the late Elmore Leonard who said writer's block was nothing more than laziness. Even if I don't feel like writing, once my fingers touch the keyboard, the storyline begins to flow nonstop.

Writing is one of the few professions that allows you to work from anywhere you choose. While mobile devices and the Internet allow for greater mobility than in years past, doctors, lawyers, dry cleaners, grocers, etc., generally have to spend some time eyeball to eyeball with patients, clients, customers. If a writer wants to travel around the world and continue to work on a novel while doing it, they only need a laptop or tablet. Prior to that it was a portable typewriter or a simple pad of paper and a pen/pencil. It's a great life!

Writers should be good readers. Read continuously in your genre(s).

I'm about half way through the first draft of the second book in the Sleeping Dogs trilogy.

My novels are techno-political thriller, so I get all the material I can handle from current national and world events.
