I started with a short story and began to realize that several of my other projects could be strung together if they were all set in the same town. I came up with the Parker-Davis family through brainstorming.
The second book of the In Weighting series is about Sam, the cousin in the first. Her journey has proven to be much more emotionally deeper and harder to write, but she's really purging her angst and we're finally getting somewhere.

Honestly, I have trouble not coming up with my ideas. My mind is like a caffeinated squirrel on a never ending track...oh look, something shiny.

Quit worrying about your first, second, third, or fifth draft being horrible. It's going to be, but understand everyone who's a writer knows this. Keep writing anyway.
Join a critique group of like minded writers (same genre is very helpful) and critique each others work. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Really write deep, layered characters.
Don't think this is a quick process and absolutely don't put crap out there. No matter if you go traditional publishing, small press, or indie, put the best possible product out there.
Listen to those around you. If you keep getting the same feedback, listen!

The flexibility of working anywhere and I can write until I'm 100 years old. I love creating these amazing characters, towns, places, situations. It's remarkable how the characters will play out, tell you what they want to say, who they are, and how they handle a situation.
The downside is most people think you aren't actually "working" because you're at home. Or when you are working, they think you're not busy because you're sitting.

Depends really. I've tried to write through it, write something else, read it out loud, ask friends to help brainstorm with me, eat chocolate, drink more coffee, read something not in that genre, eat more chocolate and if none of that works, I walk away from it for a little bit. The answer usually comes to me when I'm trying to fall asleep that night.
