I am working on the last book in the Exiled Trilogy. The first book is The Knowers, the second book is The Second Fall and the last installment I plan to title The United. I'm just about halfway through the book, I think. I, myself, can't wait to find out how the trilogy is going to end!

There are two best things (though I realize I'm really only suppose to pick one). In no particular order:
*Sitting down to write and constantly geeking out over what my characters are doing or encountering.
*Coming in contact with people in my community and across the country who like my books.
I have no words for how much joy both experiences bring!

Play on the computer. Clean my house. Get stuff done that I've neglected.
I try not to take it too seriously for a few weeks. If I find nothing's coming, I let myself off the hook. For me, it usually means I'm burned out and need a break. At least, that has been my experience thus far in my writing career.

Most people will tell you to write and read. Who am I to monkey with age-old advice? It's true. Read and write. Write and read.
My spin? If you are writing fiction that's in conversation with what's going on today, pay attention to your culture. What are people watching, wearing, listening to, caring about? How do people talk? Why do they talk that way?

By writing, really. And having a schedule!
I'm in the middle of writing the last book of a trilogy. I work, have a family, and want to finish this book. I want to finish the book a) because I really want to know what happens to Will and Lizzy (and the rest of them) and (b) for my readers.
It's an internal drive that makes me find the time to write. Once I sit down, check my email and various sites, scroll through facebook and Pinterest, I start writing. Usually - not always- that is enough for the ideas to come.
