Wow. Believe it or not, I have not had the most adventurous life. It was quite boring to be honest, which is why I used my imagination to escape into a more eventful world through writing.

I always loved to write. When I was a kid I would make up story books!

They title for my recent book "Mema's Little Black Girls" was insppired by my grandmother who always referred to my sisters and myself as her pretty little black girls. The actualy story line began as short stories that I was submitting to various writing contests. I realized that I could comppile them all into a book.

I have a children's book that will be published within a few weeks. I have begun writing Part 2 of "After the Benediciton" &"Mema's Pretty Little Black Girls". The sequel will actually be cross between both books so it will be very interesting and challengin to write.

Keep writing. Don't give up even when it's challenging. Distractions are a part of life but if you truly believe that your story is worth sharing you must press beyond the distractions that are about to come.

The opportunity to escape from my reality and live vicariously through my characters! The ability to express through my characters what I can't say or do in real life is very therapeutic for me.

I deal with it as it comes knowing that it won't last always. If I put too much pressure on myself it will prolong the journey. Allowing creativity to flow as it comes is the best approach for me.

The idea for my latest book "Mema's Prettysist Little Black Girls" was inspired by my grandmother who we referred to as "Mema". She always referred to my sisters and myself as her pretty little black girls. The manuscript is not based on her life; some elements of mine, but not on any particular individual. It is based on three sisters and two cousins whose life was impacted by the Grandmother's influence.

Honestly my writing is usually based out of my experience coupled with the experiences of those who are attached to my life.

I have two Christian novels "After the Benediction", and "Mema's Pretty Little Black Girls', and one children's book "Manny and the Magic Keys" due out in 2018. I am EXTREMELY excited about all three of these projects.

My advise to aspiring writers is to write the book. Whenever I am coaching someone regarding the writing process I always encourage the author to not focus on perfection during the primary stages of developing the manuscript. Write it out. Worry about punctuation, flow, and editing once the manuscript is completed. You will never finish the project if you are constantly stopping and starting over.

Writing is therapeutic for me. My non-fiction inspiration writing requires me to ponder on God's word which not only builds me but enables me to empower others through writing.
Non-fiction writing enables me to convey to people in the midst of adverse situations I can create a character to speak on my behalf. I am a natural introvert; thus prone to internalizing my emotions which is not healthy. Writing for me is medicinal. Thus creating a less stressed and frustrated me.

When I experience writer's block I take a step back to settle my thoughts. Sometimes, the demands of life can slow the flow of creativity. However, I do not give myself too lengthy of a break because I've learned that by doing that it will cause procrastination to set in thus preventing the completion of the project. Even if the block is still there, I require myself to write down my ideas and thoughts until the flow returns.
