And lift your gaze above the individual sentence to consider the story you're writing - readers prefer great stories to beautiful sentences. If you can do both, all the better!
Rachel McCollin I have a tendency to imagine unpleasant reworkings of real life and things that might happen if events took a certain turn. All too often they come true -
for example, 14 years ago I wrote a character very like Donald Trump!

Sometimes my imaginings become stories, sometimes they don't. It all depends on whether those ideas are populated by characters who will bring the story to life.
Rachel McCollin The sequel to my first novel, Exile. Its working title is Exile: The Eviction. But that could change as the story evolves!
Rachel McCollin I don't believe in writer's block. I've got a background in writing to deadlines so there's just no room for it. There can be a block on writing well, but that's what editing is for.
Rachel McCollin The fact that your boss isn't some guy behind a desk - it's a character you've made up and is telling you they want to do stuff. If you get sick of them, you can always kill them off but if you like them, you can give them a happy ending.
