As the storm raged and the wind howled outside the walls of the small wooden cabin, he vainly pulled at the icy grip tightening around his throat. Lightning flashed, and in that sudden light he caught a glimpse of the face of his attacker, its cold black eyes framed by bright white skin, before the final darkness took him.

(view spoiler)[The reason that this wasn't in the book is that I wasn't really satisfied with the segment I wrote on the time between Jake's return to Earth and his decision to return to Hailyn. It didn’t seem to flow with the rest of the chapter and I was at the end of the story, so I decided to leave it to the reader to imagine that period.
In a nutshell: Jake attempted to return to his old life, but it just wasn't the same. He missed Hailyn terribly. Also, he found his life on Earth constraining compared to the freedom he had enjoyed. So, he waited the few months until he graduated and approached his family. It took some convincing for his parents to believe what had happened to him really happened. They were not happy when he announced his intention to return, but grudgingly accepted it. Their parting at the pond was sad, but when Tomaris\the Guardian appeared, he assured Jake’s parents that he would visit their dreams from time to time, so they might know what was happening with Jake. With a final goodbye, Jake stepped into the light and back to Hailyn.
I hope that answers your question. Thank you for your interest in my books.

When people tell me that they really enjoyed the story.

Once I have worked out the elements that I want to capture in the chapter, I can sit down and write. I don't do well just sitting in front of the computer, hoping that some idea will come.

Actually, I was driving down a stretch of very familiar highway, and my mind started to wander. I pictured a scene from my book, but it was just a random imagining. It was only after I was encouraged by family and friends to write that I recalled that scene. I used it as the starting point and it eventually became the Jake Thomas Trilogy.

Outlining a new fantasy story that will be contained in two books. I plan to get started seriously writing by August, with the release date hopefully around Christmas.

Take the time to outline where you want the story to go. Start with the end in mind. I knew how my story would end, but once I started to outline it, a single book became a trilogy.

I usually walk away from the computer and do something to distract myself from the story. I will then come back in an hour or so and see if I can write. If I am not feeling it, I simply stop writing for the day.
