Find a topic you love and are willing to spend a lot time in because writing is a very time-consuming art. If you are not absolutely passionate about your topic you will likely get bored and not finish.

I am currently working on a book about the Crystal River site in Florida which I believe was one of the first Mayan sites not only in Florida but in the entire Southeastern U.S. I've been featured on two cable networks discussing my research about this site: Science Channel/Discovery Channel "Unexplained & Unexplored" series & History Channel's "Cities of the Underworld" series.
