My writing has been put on hold while I deal with the realities of life. I want to resurrect an old script about a witch - but a real one from the Middle Ages, not a Hollywood caricature. A young pagan woman caught up in a difficult situation.

I'm a dreamer - I only have to think of an interesting character and put them in a special situation, then have fun seeing what happens. The more interesting the character, the more interesting their response to the situation.

For me, writer's block is a sign that I'm getting bored with what I'm working on. It tells me that I need to give the direction a radical shake up, which can sometimes result in an unexpected twist and end up being better for the reader.

The idea for Loosely Translated came from my background as a translator living in Spain. You have a responsibility to translate as closely as possible, if not the words directly, at least the same meaning.
I had to translate a client's appallingly written letter and there came a point when I had to decide whether to make some changes. There were also some cultural things that sound ok in Spanish, but not in English. So the idea came to me, what would happen if you made significant changes? Coupled with the common complaint among writers when they read a bad book, they wonder how the author got published and believe that they could easily write a better one.
Hence, when my main character, Maria, is asked to translate a terrible detective mystery, she VERY loosely translates it.
