I was fortunate enough to spend many years of my childhood in a house that had no electricity. Reading was our principle pleasure and I fell in love with books and stories at an early age. And when I learned that my grandfather and great-grandfather had been writers, I had no choice.

When education became compulsory, the school leaving age was 11. It's now 18+. Isn't it odd that, the longer we live, the longer we stretch out 'childhood' and undervalue the abilities ansd resilience of the young?
