I forgot to you this question when I first wrote: Why did you choose Dylan Thomas as a subject?

Jonathan Fryer The honest answer is that my then publisher felt it was time a new biography of Dylan to be written.

I am reading Dylan The Nine Lives and am thoroughly enjoying it. I think you managed to put a laugh on every page and in doing so, you have truly captured D.T.'s essence and passed it on. Was it difficult to write?

Jonathan Fryer Delighted you enjoyed it, David. I found some original material, which was unexpected (notably interviewing his brother-in-law) but the main difficulty was getting the right balance of judgment as there was much about DT that was reprehensible, though his best poetry is sublime.

Jonathan Fryer Having recently completed a childhood memoir, I have now embarked on a novel -- which is a new direction for me.
