A man is elected to office who not only has no experience in politics but is out to ruin the country in order to further his own agenda. Part of the country is somehow brainwashed and ignorant, thinking the dictator is a leader, another part is fake "Likes" on hacked social media by the country's enemy and the rest of the people wake up every day hoping the world isn't coming to an end because of this lunatic.

I don't wait for inspiration. I plunk myself down in the chair, put my hands on the keyboard and start typing, even if it's not quite publishable yet.
BUT, I do go to writers' conferences and meet with my critique group and come away from those events totally inspired to write.

In short: Keep writing and improving and learning. Blogs are great for practicing short sprints.
Longform: If you have no choice except to write because it's what puts a smile on your face and is the thing that makes you whole and happy, then accept you're in it for the duration and commit to your craft. Don't get sidetracked by life and put off writing, marketing, researching etc, Write every single day, no matter what, even if it's only tweets, blogs, comments on other people's blogs. Treat writing like a job where you sit in the chair and clock in. Pour your heart into learning how to be good enough to deserve publishing success and along the way, keep your chin high and your heart open.
