I have a new novel coming out this fall called "Dear Miss Cushman," which I just finished revising. It's the story of an 18-year-old girl in 1850s New York City who supports her family when her father deserts them by becoming a stage actress. It was a lot of fun to write because it's a much different world than any I've written about before. So, even though I lived in Manhattan for a long time, the city in 1852 was an enigma to me and I pored over maps to try to figure it out.
