I don't really have a great deal of writer's block, but when I do experience it, I take a break from whatever I'm working on. Taking that break allows my brain to rest a bit. Then, when I'm ready to return to my project, I get a pen and paper and just start writing things down about the characters. That usually helps to stimulate the thought process. Sometimes I'll just get the glimmer of something....a scene, a word, a thought that sends me off in a whole new direction.
