I was flipping through "Oh the Places You'll Go" while doing a book signing at the local book store. I wanted to put my business lens on and challenge my own writing skills by rhyming. It was fun and has given a unique view for graduates just entering the workforce.

I'm involved in competitive speaking. I lost a speech contest but was fortunate enough to gain a mentor in the person who won the contest. I then won the door prize, which was his CD and book. I listened to the CD on a 5 hour ride home and read his book that night. I was inspired to start writing the next day. Six books later, it was all worth it.

I just completed "Now What? The Ultimate Graduation Gift for Professional Success." My plans are to begin the hard part: marketing and publicizing. The easy part is writing it.

Put it to paper. I've had too many conversation with people who have book ideas. The number who actually finish drops dramatically. I was given feedback that the second half of my first book draft was so much better than the first. My writing became stronger over time. I went back and re-wrote the first half and was so proud of the outcome. What's stopping you right now from starting to type it? Eliminate your excuses and just start doing it.

I can write when I feel like it. I originally planned to take a hiatus after my fifth book since I didn't have any great ideas. Yet, I was sitting in a book store at a book signing and was instantly struck with the new book idea.

Walk away. Running in a circle won't get you further. Find ways to get the juices flowing by taking a walk, exercising, read an article.
