Jamie Sheffield Hi Sarah,

I'm sorry that I didn't see this before now ... I assumed that GoodReads would send me a notification or something.

It didn't happen quickly or easily. I did a series of promotions through Amazon, first giving it away for free and eventually reducing the price to 99 cents ... more recently, I've taken advantage of the Kindle Countdown promotions.

I combined these with promoting the book through online advertisers for free and cheap kindle downloads to spread the word.

The key is patience ... you have to allow enough time for early readers to read and review your work. It's also important to spread the word as broadly as is possible through various online promotion websites and social media sources.

Good luck and thanks for asking!

Jamie
Jamie Sheffield I have a general 'roadmap; or what I want to write before I start, and just WRITE!

I don't worry about it being good the first time around ... my first drafts are just for me and my beta-readers to establish common ground for later drafts and subsequent fixes.

If I can just keep writing, eventually my brain shifts gears and the good stuff starts to flow.
Jamie Sheffield I love being able to share my stories with readers around the world.
Jamie Sheffield The best advice that I can give to aspiring writers is to read and write as much as you can, and share your writing and ideas with someone you trust for useful feedback.

Planning/dreaming/hoping to write isn't writing ... you have to keep writing before you will improve.
Jamie Sheffield I'm currently working to edit the first draft of the third novel in the Tyler Cunningham series of Adirondack Mysteries.

While I'm doing that, I'll also be starting a serial fiction project which should start to become available in November.
Jamie Sheffield I get inspired to write through reading great books, watching interesting TV or movies, and talking with people about their lives and interests.
Jamie Sheffield I got the idea for my recent novel, "Caretakers", from the historical Great Camps in the Adirondacks, and the dichotomy between summer people and locals in the ADKs.
