What’s the best thing about being a writer?
Tom Xavier This is an easy question, I think. The best thing is I get to write and feel my writing has purpose outside me.

What are you currently working on?
Tom Xavier The sequel to NEFFIE'S FIRST CHALLENGE even though the story is still unpublished.

How do you get inspired to write?
Tom Xavier I have many more ideas for stories than I'll ever be able to put into books. The challenge for me is deciding among the ideas, not having an idea. In the end, I go with the idea that feels most exciting and then while I'm doing a book, I discipline myself to write every day.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
Tom Xavier While I was hiking in Utah, I spotted a particularly human-looking formation of rocks and this made me think of Scandinavian myths about trolls turning to stone in daylight. I quickly decided I wanted to invent Woodsy Trolls who would turn into trees in daylight but return to their Troll forms after sunset. The story grew out of this basic starting point.
