My goodness, I didn't notice this question until now. Apologies all around.
It was one of those stories that came to me as I was trying to fall asleep. I had to get up and put it down on paper, er, screen right away. The three characters she meets on the log I'd had in my head for years before, but I had never used them, so I suppose the story grew around them. I wanted to use them in a different story, but I just repurposed them for this one.

Thanks for the question and the support. I'm currently working on something I started years ago. It's a children's adventure story inspired by Peter Pan and Hayao Miyazaki. Some of the themes I plan on touching on are race, religious zealotry, and the importance of science. Not all are exactly child-appropriate themes, but if handled correctly they should be felt without feeling heavy handed. I also have a couple of ideas I have to flesh out so there's nothing to say about them just yet.
