D.A. Cairns The mystery of grace is present as a theme in all my novels, but a mystery to solve as a plot...I'm still waiting for such a story.
D.A. Cairns I don't have a summer reading list, probably because it's always summer here in Darwin. My "to read' list her on Goodreads is the only list I need.
D.A. Cairns I can hear its raspy breath in the dark. Holding my breath to avoid gagging on its putrescence, fear slices my flesh.
D.A. Cairns Read a lot, and write a lot.
D.A. Cairns Being able to explore the world and people, and being able to express feelings through words.
D.A. Cairns There are 8 cricket books on my 'read' list, but none of them has rated more than three stars. So, nothing stands out. Of the biographies, probably Tendulkar's or Mark Talyor's. Darrell's Hair's "In the best interest of the game' was an interesting perspective.. Short answer: nothing really stands out.
D.A. Cairns I don't. I write when I feel like it, and when I don't feel like it, I don't write. It doesn't bother me. Maybe if I was earning a living from writing, and I had deadlines with which to contend, it might be a different story.
D.A. Cairns I'd have to say, the most recent couple to really engross me was Rodion and Sonya (Crime and Punishment). Such a profound and desperate relationship. Also, I soon after, remembered Simon and Elizabeth from Monique Martin's Out of Time series. Such awesome chemistry. Their relationship was the star of book 1.
D.A. Cairns No. But perhaps I should. Thanks for the tip. I really love historical fiction. It's like having a time machine.
D.A. Cairns A collection of short stories inspired by the sayings of William Shakespeare. I've just finished the first draft expecting to finish it and have it published and available for sale later this year. Follow me on Facebook for updates. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...

Also, my new novel, my ninth novel, The Dirty Feet Rebellion, will be published by Rogue Phoenix Press in November.
D.A. Cairns Inspiration comes unexpectedly from surprising sources. I once wrote a short story about a spider, a beetle and a fly meeting and chatting in a public toilet. This idea was inspired by a visit to a public toilet.
D.A. Cairns Square Pegs is a celebration of 25 years in the writing business. I chose a selection of my short stories written between 1998 and 2018; most of which have been published previously, some multiple times. I generally excluded stories which featured in my previous anthologies, The Devil Wears a Dressing Gown, and I Used to be an Animal Lover. Here's the blurb.
"You are invited on a journey through the unconventional with Square Pegs. Celebrating two decades of powerful storytelling, Square Pegs is an eclectic assortment of genre defying tales which explore the complexities of human nature and the beauty found in embracing individuality."
