Martin O'Brien Books on order for my summer break in France – where I'll be doing some research in Marseilles for my next Jacquot story – include IDAHO, by Emily Ruskovich; RAZOR GIRL, by Carl Hiaasen; LINCOLN IN THE BARDO, by George Saunders; THE BRITTLE STAR, a debut novel by Davina Langdale; and THE SEVENTH FUNCTION OF LANGUAGE, by Laurent Binet, author of HHHH, one of my favourite history books. I'll also be taking along my Kindle so I can re-read my collections of Dominick Dunne, Jay McInerney, and the wonderful Thomas Eidson... all three are great story tellers!
Martin O'Brien Thanks for your note, Monica, and I'm so pleased you enjoyed this latest Jacquot adventure. As for forthcoming cases, I can assure you that this book is not the last, and that Jacquot has given me everything I need for the next one. Once again he'll be back in Marseilles, a little bit younger, maybe not so wise, but otherwise just the same old Jacquot...
Once again, thanks for your note...
Martin
Martin O'Brien Hi Pam... Thanks for the note, and yes, Talking To The Sharks is the next Jacquot instalment. It's four years on from Knife Gun Poison Bomb and Jacquot is living in the French West Indies (for a change!), bringing up his two young daughters. Everything's going just fine until one day... Well, I'll let you find out for yourself! Paperback and e-book are now available from Amazon. I do hope you enjoy the new book... Let me know... Best aye, Martin
Martin O'Brien Hi Jeff, So sorry it's taken so long to reply. I've been nose to grindstone putting finishing touches to Jacquot's next outing - Talking To The Sharks - and haven't checked in to Goodreads for quite a while. But your wait is over. Talking To The Sharks is now available as paperback and e-book on Amazon. I do hope you enjoy it... Let me know... Best aye, Martin
Martin O'Brien Hi Jeff, and thanks for the note. "Talking..." should be out early next year. This delay is due to requests from readers for a paperback version of "Knife Gun Poison Bomb". It's taken some time to organise and has put me a little behind. However, KGPB will be in all good bookshops in the next few weeks, and now that I know how to do it (!) "Talking To The Sharks" will also appear in paperback - when the time comes!! Best aye, Martin
Martin O'Brien A lot of ideas come from reading the newspaper. That's where my last book started - a story about the international arms dealer Victor Bout currently in custody in the US.
Martin O'Brien Every day I sit at my desk and let my imagination just go wandering. All I have to do is make sure my fingers keep up on the keyboard.
Martin O'Brien Those nasty envelopes with a little window that come through the letter box once a month. Also, the kids need clothes...
Martin O'Brien The next Jacquot - number nine - entitled Talking To The Sharks.
Martin O'Brien Just never give up. Keep writing and sooner or later you'll find your voice... and a good idea.
Martin O'Brien Ruthlessly... As soon as I see the blank page I just start writing. It's like driving a car - get through first and second gear as quickly as possible and cruise into third and top.
