Jayne Lockwood It was a character, Frank Mancini, who had been in my head for years. I had a manuscript I had written in the 1990's, and thought it was about time I did something with them both. I loved the film Pulp Fiction, and knew I wanted to write something based in New York, with a ruthless Christopher Walken-flavoured male character. That's how it started.
Jayne Lockwood By anything, anyone. A piece of music, a snatched conversation, a face on a train. It can happen at any time. I store images and songs away and bring them out when I'm ready. I'm a great believer in keeping one's mind open and seeing opportunities for stories at all times.
Jayne Lockwood To date (Feb 2015) I have just published an M/M romance novel under the name Savannah Smythe. It's called Lexington Black, and is a love story.

Now I am gathering notes for my third contemporary novel as Jayne Lockwood. Set in the Chilterns, it is also a romance, but an uncompromising one. That's all I can say at the moment, except to mention that it is a sister book to The Cloud Seeker, in that it features some of the same characters, but it isn't a sequel. Each book I write stands on its own.
Jayne Lockwood Do it, but don't expect to be the next J K Rowling or E L James. There are people who hit paydirt but most don't. Do it for the craft, and have faith in yourself. If you don't like what you've written, no-one else will either.
Jayne Lockwood The best thing? You create whole worlds and characters, put words in their mouths, put them in situations and see how they react. Sometimes they can surprise you.

And great reviews. That is a fantastic feeling, when someone you will never know or meet actually bothers to write a wonderful review. Best. Feeling. Ever.
Jayne Lockwood Put simply, I write. The worst thing you can do is not write, in my opinion. It doesn't have to be about that particular thing you are struggling with. It can be something completely different, but whatever it is, the creative juices are flowing and it takes you far enough away from the problem that you can see it more clearly. I've always find that, anyway. And you might have something you can use later - a poem, something for your blog, a snippet of another book. The important thing is to keep the words flowing.
