Barry Kelly Dottie,
Do I ever! Sorry for such a late response. I seldom go to Goodreads. You are one of my favorite people. Wish I had been able to stay in touch but the realities of divorce are hard. My email is davidbarrykelly@hotmail.com. I recently moved my books to Amazon. Easier to work with, more exposure and cheaper for the readers. All books are on Kindle. Now living in South Caroline. Say hello to all the Dottie Mulls. Expotitions were my life. Much to my surprise approaching 87 and still feel good.
Thank you,
Barry
Barry Kelly I really don't know what writer's block is. There are times when I don't feel like writing and I don't. I don't believe in keeping a tight schedule, like every day I must write so many words. Since I often don't know in advance where my characters will go, I do get into spots it takes me time to figure out. I detest having to rewrite large sections. If you have to force yourself to write, you should keep your day job.
Barry Kelly I enjoy talking about my books with interested readers. I get invited to speak at book clubs. That is always an enjoyable experience. Bringing moments of escape into peoples lives is, to me, a good thing. Of course, the author has to live in the world of his characters when writing. I enjoy that experience. Seeing your own characters develop and cope with dangerous and complicated issues is very satisfying.
Barry Kelly Recognize the easy and fun part is writing the book. Finding a publisher and getting the book ready to publish is, to me, a chore. Marketing the book is even more of a chore. Write about only what you know and don't seek or take too much advice.
Barry Kelly I just finished my first non fiction book,"INSIGHTS: Transforming America. Is this what we fought for?" It is now available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble as an ebook or hardcopy. Soon to be in paperback also a giveaway book here on Goodreads. I enjoyed the process of writing this book, but am planning a fifth novel with some of the same characters in my last novel, "Run to Freedom."
Barry Kelly I have a lot of stories to tell and an active imagination. I believe in early times I might have been a traveling story teller. It is a thrill to bring a character on paper to a version of reality.
Barry Kelly It seemed natural to start my fourth novel, a prequel to the first three, in Russia since my hero's father escaped from the KGB and settled in America. I lived in Moscow (1973 to 75). I was the CIA Station Chief in that period. I had personal knowledge of life and work in the Soviet Union.
