Lennox Randon Sometime in the late 80's or very early 90's, my wife and went to the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas to see an exhibit by the painter Jacob Lawrence. Among the paintings were series of works on Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman.

One of the paintings about Tubman had the following label: "5. SHE FELT THE FIRST STING OF SLAVERY WHEN AS A YOUNG GIRL SHE WAS STRUCK ON THE HEAD WITH AN IRON BAR BY AN ENRAGED OVERSEER. (1940)
At 15, Tubman received a head injury at the hands of an overseer which left her with a dented skull and a seizure disorder which caused periods of sleepiness throughout her life."

I was blown away that Tubman made so many ventures to rescue slaves, knowing that at any time she could suddenly fall asleep and be captured. I had to share that with the world, and I immediately knew I wanted to write of this in a time travel story.
