Elizabeth Rose Depends on what Onyx is?
Elizabeth Rose By reading. Even if I'm reading something that has absolutely nothing to do with what I want to write, just the feel of the words of a story makes me want to create something of my own. I read a lot when I'm stuck.
Elizabeth Rose For To Dwell in Dreams, I started with the base concept of the series- looking at popular fairytales and looking for the 'negative' message that may be sent along with the positive message. With my first novel, Till the Last Petal Falls, I was influenced more by the Disney version, and the changes from the 'original' to the Disney that changed the main message of the story (I think) in a negative way. For To Dwell in Dreams I focused more on the original Sleeping Beauty, in which she is violated in her sleep and produces children who are responsible for waking her from her sleep by sucking out the thorn in her finger. I decided I needed to stray away from the rape narrative that has already been addressed with this story, and found myself called to a narrative that followed the issues of post-partum depression and a stubborn attitude that refuses to accept a growing maturity and progress as positive part of growing up.
Elizabeth Rose Just keep writing. And submitting. And writing some more. Don't wait for other people's approval, but take criticism to heart. Even with that, just keep moving. Momentum is key.
Elizabeth Rose The third installment of the Once Upon a Reality Series, which will follow the story of Anoira White, a young, undiagnosed autistic girl coming of age under the thumb of her step-mother, Hilde, who will do almost anything to make her daughter 'normal'. It will be a creative re-telling of Snow White, and is tentatively titled 'The Thing About Apples'.
Elizabeth Rose Being able to live in so many different worlds of your own making at one time.
Elizabeth Rose Usually by tackling it head-on. Some days this means pushing through a chapter that I'm struggling with. I know it's not going to be my best work, coming from a block, but I always know I can come back and edit that. Sometimes its by writing something other than my current project, so a short story or a poem or just a paragraph of description. I'm not the kind of person to avoid difficult tasks, and that's all writer's block is to me. Those days when the thing that I love becomes a difficult task- which makes it all the more important to do right then.
