Also... My German Shorthaired Pointer is very good about periodically prodding me to take a break... and of course entertain her... but it always improves my writing as even a short break brings you back with a fresh perspective.

Research diligently, then write, re-write, and again re-write until your manuscript is what you want it to be. The accomplishment of really good writing is hard work, so be prepared to give it everything you can to achieve your goals.

I'm not writing anything for publication at the moment as I'm committed to work closely with my publisher, Casemate Publishers, in the marketing of "Hold At All Hazards." I believe it to be a very important book that provides a considerable amount of historically accurate detail and reveals the importance of a field artillery battery when involved in close combat with enemy infantry at dire moments and holding ground to prevent breach of its main line. Also exposed for today's readers is the critical difference in fighting on the 2nd day of battle versus the more acclaimed 3rd day.

Writing has always been a part of my life and it was easy to simply transition to creating books for publication. I'm a great believer that well-researched and well-written historical fiction is an effective means to inform readers about important moments in history while entertaining them with a novel that will keep their attention.

While doing several book signings at the Gettysburg Visitor Center Bookstore I spent off-duty hours on the battlefield and discovered the 9th Massachusetts Battery of Light Artillery monument on the Trostle Farm. The original house, barn and stonewall are still there and I became excited by the heroic story of what the officers and men of Bigelow's Battery accomplished there. I then began several years of researching and writing to bring forth a highly accurate novel about this critical event.
